Director of Project Management Organization

Zehner’s PMO is accountable for creating project roadmaps and leading cross-functional teams from concept through concrete deliverable of a digital product. The success or failure of a project depends on having engaged leadership and decisive decision-making to achieve clear goals, a defined scope and a definite start and end. A successful Project Manager defines a vision, manages a roadmap, resource allocation and prioritization, and coordinates engineering and design to deliver exceptional digital products that positively impacts the client’s customer experience and business value. As a digital product-focused agency, Zehner’s PMO must be both technically literate to execute their jobs well and adept with the soft skills of relationship management and communication across all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manages all aspects of PMO department performance to optimize PMO team experience, leadership of internal project teams, and client experience and outcomes.
  • Lead/represent project management discipline by developing or enhancing processes, protocols, staffing allocation, department structure, and resource management.
  • Lead PM team, including owning all aspects of recruiting, onboarding, retention, engagement, onboarding, training employees, mentoring and professional development.
  • Partner with cross-functional department leads to facilitate the development of actionable work plans and resource allocations across projects.
  • Ensures project teams are staffed effectively to support the execution of projects and optimize capacity utilization and billability.
  • Develops and implements tools and processes to manage project risk, project estimates and costs, and resources and metrics.
  • Communicates status of active client portfolio to senior management and executive team, in accordance to success KPIs related to milestones, deadlines, hours, margins, risk management, etc.
  • Develops and manages client relationships at the highest level, as appropriate, including management of expectations, communications, negotiations, escalation, feedback.Provides targeted and timely communication of results, achievements, and challenges to direct reports, peers and leaders.
  • Mentors and coaches project team members; provides hands-on direction and motivation to the team.
  • Demonstrates professional, high integrity, trustworthy and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Complies with federal laws, state laws, industry best practices and norms, as well as Zehner standards of conduct.

Qualifications/Education and/or Experience

  • Seven or more years of ecommerce agency experience, demonstrating progressive career growth, exceptional performance, and ability to lead PMO teams
  • Proven Director+ level experience leading and managing teams and disciplines 
  • Willingness to execute project management, as needed
  • Experience leading, optimizing and inspiring a diverse team with individual needs
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and ability to make effective decisions independently with minimal escalation to or supervision from supervisor.
  •  Strong organizational and analytical skills for planning, estimating, budgeting and monitoring portfolio performance from a financial and operational POV.
  • Authority to delegate and monitor work completion, timely and accurate, across teams
  • Advanced level of critical thinking, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to influence/inspire others, including senior executives internally and externally, with appropriate data, sound judgment and demonstrable expertise
  • Customer service orientation
  • “Leadership as service” orientation - the success of your direct reports is your greatest fulfillment, achievement, and duty
  • Active listening skills and empathy are a must
  • Micro-managers need not apply
  • Background in development or IT is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college.
